FCT police foil kidnapping attempt in Kubwa, recover AK-47 rifle and ammunition

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have foiled a kidnapping attempt in Byazhin area of Kubwa, in Bwari Council Area, recovering one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after bandits attacked the same area, k!lling a security guard and abducting four residents, including a pastor.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday said the intended victims, Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed during the operation.

According to the PPRO, the operation followed intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers around the Redeemed Church area of Byazhin, near Paze Hills.

Operatives attached to its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by the Officer Commanding, swiftly mobilised to the area.

The officers arrived at the scene and discovered armed suspects attempting to force their way into a residence with the intention of abducting the occupants.

Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire on them, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The operatives successfully repelled the attackers, forcing the suspects to flee into nearby bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

“On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at approximately 12:34 a.m., operatives of the FCT Police Command attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers around the Redeemed Church area of Byazhin, near Paze Hills, swiftly mobilized to the location in a coordinated response led by the Officer Commanding (OC), Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” the statement read.

“Upon arrival, the operatives discovered that the armed suspects were attempting to forcefully gain entry into a house with the intention of abducting the occupants.

“Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, prompting a decisive response from the police team.A

“A fierce gun battle ensued for over thirty minutes, during which the police operatives successfully repelled the attackers and foiled the kidnapping attempt.

“The suspects fled into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.”

“Exhibits recovered from the scene include: one (1) AK-47 rifle; one (1) AK-47 magazine; and seven (7) rounds of live ammunition.

“The intended victim, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed and evacuated to safety.

“They were subsequently taken to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, where they received medical attention for trauma-related distress before being placed under protective custody.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, fcai., commends the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation and reassures residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.

“He also ordered enhanced surveillance patrols within the area to forestall any further criminal activities.
