FIFA has officially announced a major overhaul of its pre-match rituals ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, introducing a new “360-degree fan-centric” ceremony designed to create a more immersive experience for supporters inside the stadium.

This new protocol will ensure that every fan, regardless of where they are seated, has a unique view of the celebrations before kick-off.

However, one of the most significant changes is that the entire matchday squad including substitutes will take part in the national anthem ceremony. Traditionally, only the starting XI lined up on the pitch before matches, but under the new format, all players will gather around the centre circle alongside the referees, creating a moment of unity and recognition for every squad member representing their country.

The new presentation will also feature giant national flag banners displayed across the pitch, dedicated player-entry arches, handheld flags, and enhanced visual effects aimed at building anticipation before kick-off.

As the tournament progresses into the knockout rounds, FIFA plans to introduce additional elements such as coloured smoke and pyrotechnics to further elevate the spectacle. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the changes reflect the organisation’s commitment to innovating the fan experience while ensuring that every player shares in the pride and emotion of competing on football’s biggest stage.

The new ceremony is expected to make its debut when the 2026 World Cup kicks off when Mexio face South Africa in opening game.
