Former Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and his wife were reportedly held at gunpoint during a robbery at their home in Spain, hours before Villarreal’s Champions League match against Napoli.
The Hungarian goalkeeper, 36, was ruled out of the fixture after four masked intruders allegedly forced their way into the property in Puzol, north of Valencia, early on Tuesday, October 13. According to the report, the intruders threatened Gulacsi and his wife, Pilates instructor Diana Vigh, and ordered them to open a safe and hand over valuables.
At least one of the couple’s two children was understood to have been inside the house. The suspects reportedly carried pistols, although it remained unclear whether the weapons were genuine or replicas. The incident lasted about an hour before the intruders fled in two high-end vehicles.
Police have opened an investigation, but no arrests have been reported. Authorities have not confirmed which possessions were taken or their value. Gulacsi joined Liverpool on loan from MTK Budapest in 2007 before completing a permanent move. He played for the club’s reserve team but never made a senior appearance.
He had loan spells at Hereford United, Tranmere Rovers and Hull City before joining Red Bull Salzburg in 2013. After playing for RB Leipzig, he joined Villarreal in August on a two-year contract. Gulacsi represented Hungary between 2014 and 2025, including at the 2016, 2020 and 2024 European Championships.
Separately, police arrested three people suspected of involvement in burglaries across Catalonia, including at the homes of Barcelona players Joan Garcia and Pau Cubarsi. Two men were remanded in custody, while a 46-year-old woman was released on conditional bail pending further investigation.
