At least four police personnel were k!lled during an attack on Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

The attack occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The attackers stormed the formation in large numbers, engaging personnel in a prolonged gun battle before overpowering them.

The confirmed casualties include Inspector Samuel Ezekiel attached to Nganzai Division; Inspector Sanusi Mohammed of 58 PMF Lafia on special duty; Police Constable Bitrus Luka; and Police Constable Shaibu Bukar, both attached to the crack squad in Maiduguri.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Kenneth Daso, said the attackers deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, causing damage to a section of the station and partially burning an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Borno State visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and addressed officers and men of the division.

He also condoled with personnel over the loss of their colleagues and commended those who resisted the attackers despite overwhelming firepower.

Security agencies said tactical teams had been placed on high alert, with intensified operations ongoing in the general area.

The Command laid the four officers to rest on Sunday.

The interment ceremony was held at Kawar Maila Burial Ground and the Maximum Prison Burial Ground in Maiduguri, in accordance with Islamic and Christian rites.

The solemn event was attended by the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, alongside the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), ACP Jawi A. Mohammed, and other senior officers of the command.

Religious rites were conducted by officers of the Command Chaplaincy, including CSP Bukar M. Gajibo (Imam) and CSP Theophilus Mutum (Chaplain), who offered prayers for the repose of the deceased officers.

The command described the slain officers as gallant personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, commending their courage and commitment to national service.

Authorities assured that efforts were ongoing to sustain operations against terrorist elements in the area.
