Panic erupted on Adeleye Street in the Doyin area of Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, after a gas explosion triggered a fire that gutted two shops and left a gas attendant severely injured.
On Tuesday, a gas explosion on Adeleye Street near the Doyin neighborhood of Orile-Iganmu in Lagos resulted in a fire that damaged two stores and injured a gas attendant.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters arrived at the area by 12:34 p.m. after receiving a distress call at approximately 12:23 p.m. Fire stations from Sari Iganmu and Ajegunle were sent out right away to contain the incident.
The event happened in one of two stores at the frontage of a demolished structure on a half-plot of land, according to the agency, while the attendant was replenishing a gas cylinder.
The explosion caused a fire to start, which spread to the second store on the property.
The statement read, “The incident was caused by a gas explosion, which occurred while an attendant was refilling a gas cylinder in one of the two (2) shops at the frontage of a demolished building on a half plot of land.”
The attendant was reportedly brought to an unnamed hospital for medical care after suffering severe injuries during the procedure.
The statement said, “The attendant suffered severe injuries and was transported to an undisclosed hospital, while the subsequent fire also affected the other shop.”
However, at the time this news was filed, no fatality had been confirmed, according to the authorities.
The bureau said, “As of the time of this report, no fatalities were reported.”
By bringing the situation under control, emergency personnel were able to stop additional damage from occurring.
Investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the incident have started, according to the fire service.
