Erling Haaland was among four Manchester City players absent from training as Enzo Maresca’s side prepared for their Champions League meeting with AEK Athens.
Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly also missed the session, leaving City awaiting updates on their fitness ahead of the European fixture.
The absences raise questions over the quartet’s availability, particularly after Haaland, Kovacic and Nunes were assessed following City’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich at the weekend.
Maresca reveals players reported no problems
After the Ipswich match, Maresca said all three players had indicated they were feeling fine despite suffering knocks during the game.
“I asked all of them,” the City manager said.
“Mateo Kovacic said he was okay, Matheus said he was okay, Erling also said he was okay.”
Their subsequent absence from training, however, leaves City waiting for further clarity before deciding whether they can feature against AEK Athens.
Haaland’s availability will be a particular concern given his importance to City’s attack, while Kovacic and Nunes provide additional options in midfield.
