Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus has compared Michael Olise’s ability to Diego Maradona and urged the German champions to offer the winger an improved contract immediately.
Matthäus believes Olise’s development into a world-class player warrants a significant pay rise, arguing that his reported annual salary of around €13.5 million no longer reflects his value to the club.
The former Germany captain also backed Olise following his dismissal against Viking Stavanger in the Champions League, insisting the Frenchman had responded positively during Bayern’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Matthäus defends Olise after red card
Olise was sent off against Viking Stavanger after being provoked during the match, a mistake that Matthäus described as regrettable. However, he said the winger showed greater composure against Leipzig despite being subjected to several strong challenges
“Even a Diego Maradona could not be stopped by fair means,” Matthäus said at an event organised by his sponsor, Interwetten.
