The head coach of the France national team, Didier Deschamps, has backed Zinedine Zidane to replace him in the role.

Deschamps endorsed Zidane in his first interview since he confirmed he would step down in 2026.

Les Bleus boss revealed he would leave the role in January.

And although he won’t depart until 2026, there are already speculations over who his successor will be.

Zidane is one of the favourites to replace the ex-Marseille manager.

The 52-year-old has been selective when it comes to his next job after leaving Los Blancos. But it is believed the opportunity to manage his country appeals to him greatly.

Speaking to L’Équipe, Deschamps said, “Yes, of course, there is a lot of respect between us.

“We last saw each other in the summer of 2023, and we should see each other again next summer, for the same reasons.

“Zizou is a very good candidate, natural and I would add expected. Afterwards, I don’t know if he will want to become the manager.”
