Former Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has expressed his joy at the prospect of Zinedine Zidane being named the new manager of France, stating that the ex-Real Madrid coach is among the greatest in the history of football.
In an interview with French media outlet Konbini, Benzema was asked for his opinion on Zidane potentially taking over as France’s next manager.
He admitted uncertainty regarding whether the 54-year-old will assume the role but emphasized their strong relationship.
Benzema remarked:“Am I pleased that Zidane is the new coach of France? I cannot say for certain if it will be him, but if it is, YES, I AM TRULY HAPPY. He is a legend, he is like a big brother to me.”
France has yet to officially confirm the next manager of the men’s senior team following Didier Deschamps’ departure after a 14-year tenure. Nonetheless, Zinedine Zidane has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge of the Les Bleus squad.
During his 14 years in charge, Deschamps developed a tactically astute team that achieved significant success, including winning the 2018 World Cup.
His record stands at 122 wins, 32 draws, and 33 losses from 187 matches managed. On the other hand, Zinedine Zidane established himself as one of modern football’s top managers.
He led the Real Madrid first team to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga championships during two separate managerial periods from 2016 to 2021. Should he be appointed as manager, Zidane is anticipated to enhance France’s performance and guide them to further major honors.
