Arsenal Women manager, Renee Slegers, has hailed Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, following her authoritative performance in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with the Gunners during a Women’s Super League match at the Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday.

Fuka Tsunoda put Brighton ahead just before halftime, but the visitors secured a point thanks to Frida Maanum’s equaliser in the second half.

Nnadozie has propelled the Seagulls to an unprecedented five-match unbeaten streak in the Women’s Super League, representing the club’s longest stretch without a loss since at least the 2011-12 season.

She made several crucial saves for Brighton, including an exceptional fingertip save to thwart Caitlin Foord and a quick reaction to block Lotte Wubben-Moy from a set-piece, although the offside flag indicated that the latter would not have counted.

Slegers acknowledged that Arsenal found it challenging to penetrate Brighton’s defense, even with the inclusion of Alessia Russo and Stina Blackstenius.

In an interview with the BBC, she said, “Brighton consistently approaches the game with great conviction and intensity. It also pertains to the decisions we make on the field. It is about achieving balance and fostering partnerships throughout the season so that adjustments can be made without adversely affecting the team.

“There were chances to exploit the space behind, but Nnadozie also excelled in defending that area, necessitating a high level of detail and quality in execution.”

Looking ahead, Nnadozie and her Brighton colleagues will face Liverpool in the FA Cup semifinal on Sunday.
