Gospel singer Victoria Orenze has sparked conversation online after questioning Nigeria’s economic realities, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, continued government borrowing, and the burden of taxation on citizens.

The gospel singer expressed concern over what she described as contradictions in the country’s financial structure, asking why Nigerians are still being taxed and subjected to economic hardship despite the removal of fuel subsidy and ongoing government loans.

In her remarks, she queried the impact of these policies on ordinary citizens, suggesting that the benefits of subsidy removal and national borrowing do not appear to reflect in improved living conditions or public services.

“How can subsidy be removed and we are still borrowing? Why are we paying tax for what we are not getting?” she asked, a statement that quickly drew reactions across social media platforms.

Her comments have since generated mixed responses, with some Nigerians agreeing with her concerns about transparency and accountability in public finance, while others argued that national borrowing and taxation are complex economic tools that require broader context beyond immediate public perception.

The discussion reflects ongoing public frustration over rising living costs, inflation, and questions about how government revenue is managed and distributed.

As debates continue, many citizens are calling for clearer communication from authorities on how public funds are being utilized and how economic reforms are expected to benefit the average Nigerian.
