Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has sparked a conversation about marriage after his sister-in-law reportedly told him about the conditions his brother gave her.
The actor raised questions about the benefits of marriage for women, seemingly prompted by what he learned from his sister-in-law about the terms of her relationship with his brother.
Reacting to the situation, Kanayo asked, “How does marriage favour women?”
His comment has drawn attention to the expectations and conditions that can arise in marriages, particularly regarding the roles and responsibilities of husbands and wives.
Marriage remains a subject of debate, with people sharing different views on fairness, compromise and the expectations partners place on each other. While some believe marriage offers companionship and security, others argue that its benefits and responsibilities should be balanced between both partners.
Kanayo’s question has therefore raised an important issue about what women gain from marriage and whether the conditions placed on them are fair.
