Sophia Momodu, the first babymama of music star Davido, has opened up about the struggles of having a child out of wedlock.
While speaking at Columbia University ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week, she shared her story of having a child with a famous singer.
According to her, she became pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar, despite her father being a pastor. She said it was difficult because of the stigma, and she had to find her strength in the midst of it all.
She said that, for the longest time, she didn’t have a voice, despite becoming famous/popular.
“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crázy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all that. And for the longest time, I didn’t have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn’t have a voice.
Sophia said the stigma and negativity drowned out her own voice and she wanted her own experience to be entertained understood. She recalled being asked by an aunt to remain silent about the issue because it was considered a topic Black women weren’t expected to discuss publicly.
