Eyiyemi Afolayan, the daughter of renowned Nollywood filmmaker and actor Kunle Afolayan, has sparked conversations online after sharing her candid opinions about relationships, marriage, and financial stability.
During an interview with BBC, the actress revealed that she would rather marry a man of modest means than a wealthy one, explaining that financial status can sometimes affect people’s behavior in relationships.
According to her, she values a man who is hardworking and self-sufficient over one whose wealth may influence his commitment. She noted that she is not interested in financially carrying a partner, although she is willing to support a husband who is already pursuing something meaningful.
Speaking on the subject, Eyiyemi said:
“I can’t build with a man. Why can’t I build with a man? You know men; they are ingrates.
If I marry a man who doesn’t have money and see money, if I marry him, he will stay with me, not because he loves me, but because he doesn’t have the money to flirt around.”
She further stated:
“I was born into wealth. Any man who wants to marry me must be doing something for himself. I can’t be feeding him, but I can support him.”
The actress also expressed her stance on polygamy, making it clear that she would never consider becoming a second or third wife.
Explaining her position, she said she believes polygamous marriages often come with avoidable conflicts and complications.
In her words:
“I can’t be a second or third wife for any man. It is not because I am jealous or anything. A polygamous home comes with a lot of troubles.”
Despite her views, Eyiyemi emphasized that she respects her father’s personal decisions and supports his right to live life on his own terms. She added that she and her siblings would continue to stand by him regardless of the choices he makes.
