Nollywood actor Zubby Michael has revealed why he chose to stay away from romantic relationships during the early phase of his acting career.
According to him, the decision was intentional as he focused heavily on building his craft and securing his place in the industry rather than getting emotionally involved.
In a recent interview, the actor, who recently aligned with ADC, said his time working in Asaba one of Nollywood’s busiest production centres played a major role in shaping his mindset. He explained that the period was defined by intense work and determination, where staying focused was essential for success.
He admitted that he once avoided relationships because he feared emotional distractions could derail his career progress.
“I’ve been scared of women… I’ve been working hard,” he said, recalling his mindset during those years.
Zubby further explained that relationships often come with emotional demands that can affect concentration if not carefully managed. For him, maintaining discipline and focus was a priority.
He added that one of his biggest concerns was how personal issues could spill into his professional life and impact his performance on set.
“If you disturb me mentally, it will affect my work,” he said.
However, the actor noted that his perspective has since changed. With greater stability in his career and personal life, he says he is now more open to love and relationships than he was in the past.
He stated:
“See now I don get my house. Now I can say okay let’s see how it goes. There’s time for everything… Na now we wan love,” he added, suggesting that he is now ready to explore that aspect of life.”
