Champz, the 14-year-old breakout star and first son of Afrobeats legend Wizkid, has revealed how he manages his blossoming music career alongside his education. In a recent Q&A session with his mother, Shola Ogudu, the young rapper shared insight into his disciplined daily routine, proving that even a chart-topping artist has to finish his homework.

Responding to questions about his lifestyle since the release of his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, Champz emphasized that school remains his primary focus. “I’m really focused at school, I go to the studio during my breaks, I write during my free times,” he explained. “I juggle music and school very well because I can find a balance between school and my work life.”

A Record-Breaking Debut

The teenager, whose real name is Boluwatife Balogun, is not just “dabbling” in music. His debut project made history in November 2025, reaching Number 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart within just five hours of its release. This achievement made him the youngest Nigerian artist ever to top the charts, surpassing even the early milestones set by his father.

No Pressure, Just Passion

Despite the inevitable comparisons to his father, Champz has maintained a level-headed approach to his fame. In previous interviews, he noted that he feels “no pressure” because he is focused on his own sound—a blend of Afro-swing and UK rap—rather than trying to replicate Wizkid’s signature style.

His mother, Shola Ogudu, has been a vocal advocate for his education and mental well-being, often reminding critics that he is a child first. She expressed her pride during the Q&A, highlighting his discipline: “Champz is 14, balancing academics and his passion with serious discipline. This is Champz’s journey, his grind, and his future.”

With over a million streams recorded in the first 24 hours of his EP’s release, Champz is quickly becoming the face of the “Next Gen” of Afrobeats, all while making sure he doesn’t miss a beat in the classroom.
