Relationship coach Solomon Buchi has stirred debate on social media after sharing his opinion on financial responsibilities in marriage, stating that a married woman should not be responsible for paying rent.
Speaking in a video that has gained attention online, Buchi emphasized that one of a husband’s primary duties is to provide shelter for his family. He described men as natural providers and protectors within the home.
“A woman should never have to pay rent. If you’re a man and you claim to be a husband, you should be able to provide at least shelter. You’re meant to be a provider and a protector,” he said.
However, Buchi stressed that such a setup should involve clear expectations from both spouses.
According to him, if a man takes full responsibility for the family’s financial needs, then the woman should be willing to take on traditional homemaking duties and manage the household.
“If you believe the man should exclusively provide, then you should exclusively be domesticated. If she wants an exclusive provider, you must demand an exclusive traditional woman. You can’t eat your cake and have it,” he added.
The relationship coach further advised intending couples to have open discussions about expectations and responsibilities before getting married. He argued that partners should not expect the advantages of traditional marriage roles without accepting the obligations that come with them.
His comments have since triggered mixed reactions online. While some users supported his stance and agreed that clearly defined roles can help marriages thrive, others maintained that modern marriages should be based on teamwork, shared responsibilities, and mutual support.
