Kelechi Iheanacho has admitted his recent form has “not been great” despite scoring the decisive goal in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Dundee.

Iheanacho came off the bench to score the winner in the 82nd minute, ending a lengthy goal drought and securing a crucial three points for Celtic.

Reflecting on his performance and recent challenges, the forward acknowledged both personal and team struggles.

“It feels good to contribute to the team. We’ve been working really hard. Obviously, it’s not been great for the past few weeks, but I think today we showed character, discipline, and the togetherness needed to win the game,” he said.

The goal marked his first since October, underlining a difficult period largely impacted by injuries and inconsistent game time.

Focus on collective improvement

Despite his match-winning contribution, Iheanacho maintained a team-first perspective, stressing the need for continued improvement.

“Oh yes, I’m satisfied. It’s important to help the team get the win. Personally, but collectively as a team, we really worked hard to get this today,” he added.

“Yeah, obviously everyone has to improve, and I personally have to keep working hard to help the team get there at the end.”

Momentum shift in title race

The victory lifts Celtic to third in the standings, just three points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian, keeping them firmly in the title conversation.

From a performance standpoint, Iheanacho’s return to scoring form provides a timely boost.

However, sustainability remains the key metric. Celtic’s title ambitions will depend on whether contributions like this can be consistently replicated in the run-in.
