Nigerian singer Ruger has raised alarm over the growing insecurity in parts of Nigeria ahead of the festive season, expressing particular concern for Nigerians returning from abroad popularly known as “IJGBs” (I Just Got Backs).

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Ruger voiced his fears about the rise in kidnapping across the country. He described the disturbing trend as a “full-time business” in some regions and warned that the situation could worsen during the December holidays when many people travel to their hometowns.

“I’m scared for people this December. Kidnapping has become a full-time business in some parts of Nigeria and it’s only gonna get worse this festive season,” the singer wrote.

He further cautioned that the end-of-year festivities, which typically see an influx of Nigerians returning home from abroad, might present an opportunity for criminals to strike.

“People will travel back to their villages from abroad and from many other places in Nigeria. These [criminals] will strike hard,” he added.

Ruger’s post has sparked mixed reactions online. While many social media users praised him for speaking out about the worsening insecurity, others lamented the government’s seeming inability to tackle the problem effectively.

With December fast approaching a period often referred to as Detty December due to the numerous concerts, parties, and celebrations across the country, Ruger’s warning serves as a sobering reminder of the security challenges that continue to plague Nigeria.
