An inmate at the Potiskum Correctional Centre in Yobe State, Blessing Sunday, who was allegedly impregnated by a correctional officer, Sani Saleh-Bodejo, has given birth to a baby boy.

A source confirmed to Daily Nigerian that the inmate gave birth at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

“Blessing Sunday has given birth to a baby boy today (Sunday). She and the baby are in good condition at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital,” the source said.

Saleh-Bodejo s3xually assaulted and impregnated the inmate with the support of some female colleagues.

According to sources, Mr Saleh-Bodejo, an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigerian Correctional Service, ASC II, and yardmaster of the facility, allegedly gained access to the inmates’ section in the wee hours of the night.

The officer was also accused of s3xually assaulting another convicted inmate, identified as Salma.

Following the allegations, the Nigerian Correctional Service confirmed the incident and announced the suspension of Mr Saleh-Bodejo and other officers linked to the case.

In a statement issued in December, the service’s spokesperson, J. N. Osuji, said the affected personnel were suspended for “unprofessional conduct with inmates,” while queries and charge sheets were issued to others to determine their level of involvement.

The statement added that the Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB, and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, approved the suspension after reviewing the preliminary investigation report.

He emphasised that the board maintains zero tolerance for misconduct across its agencies and would ensure that any officer found culpable faces appropriate disciplinary action.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of misconduct, negligence, rights violations, or inappropriate relationships between staff and inmates.

“Any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures and possible legal sanctions in line with established regulations,” the statement added.
