U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that Iran has pledged to never again close the Strait of Hormuz, describing the agreement as a major victory for American negotiators during ongoing ceasefire talks.

The statement followed a formal declaration from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who confirmed the vital waterway is now fully accessible for commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire period.

“Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the world,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

In his announcement, Araghchi noted that the passage for all commercial vessels is open on coordinated routes previously outlined by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation. The move is seen as a significant de-escalation intended to prevent the strategic strait from being used as a geopolitical lever.

Trump also extended gratitude to the mediators involved in the negotiations held in Islamabad. He specifically thanked Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling them “fantastic people” for their role in facilitating the dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

The news had an immediate impact on global energy markets, with oil prices dropping nearly 10% as the threat of a maritime blockade subsided.
