The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the r@pe and m8rder of a young woman in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.

LIB reported that the woman identified as Ugochi Success Anosike was allegedly r@ped and strangled to d3ath in her room on Tuesday night.

A family friend of the deceased, @torty_mercy) raised the alarm on social media, calling on the police to intervene immediately.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage on social media with Nigerians demanding that the IGP and the Rivers State Police Command ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident to punch on Thursday, said the suspect is in custody.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident, and the suspect has been arrested. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department,” the PPRO said.

“The body of the woman has been deposited in the morgue, and investigation is ongoing. Further details will be made known in due course.”

LIB further gathered that a female suspect, said to be the landlord’s daughter, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

According to accounts from family members and friends, the late Success lost both parents in a fatal road accident a few years ago, leaving her and her siblings orphaned.

Despite the hardship, she was described as a struggling but devoted Christian who lived quietly in Oyigbo, Rivers State.

A close source revealed that Success had previously reported being harassed by one of her neighbours.

“About three months ago, she told me one of her neighbours tried to force his way into her room. I went to warn the guy, but he wasn’t around. I advised her to always lock her doors at night,” the source said.
