It has been confirmed that La Liga 2 player Jesus de Miguel has died after the injury he picked up in his side’s fixture in the league yesterday.
Spanish football has been thrown into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 30, a day after suffering a cardiac arrest during his side’s fixture against FC Andorra.
The tragic incident occurred during the closing moments of the match when De Miguel was involved in a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono. The goalkeeper had rushed out of his penalty area to clear a long ball but accidentally struck the Tenerife striker in the chest with his knee.
De Miguel immediately collapsed and remained motionless on the pitch, prompting players from both teams to urgently call for medical assistance. Medical personnel spent more than five minutes attending to him before he was transported to hospital by ambulance.
The match was subsequently abandoned in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Owono was shown a straight red card following the incident.
Following the announcement, CD Tenerife released a statement expressing profound grief over the loss of their player, while extending their condolences to his family, friends and everyone associated with the club.
“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness.”
Several major Spanish clubs have also paid tribute to the late striker. Barcelona and Real Madrid were among those who shared messages of sympathy, offering support to his loved ones and teammates during this difficult period.
