The Lagos State Government has pushed back against claims that Alimosho General Hospital has only one working dialysis machine.
Lagos State Commissioner for Health Professor Akin Abayomi has denied reports saying only one dialysis machine works at Alimosho General Hospital in Igando.
The hospital’s Dialysis Centre has eight operational machines.
Six are for general dialysis patients and two are reserved for patients with HIV or hepatitis, following infection control guidelines.
Services run from 6am until the last scheduled patient is treated, sometimes going past midnight.
The hospital runs about 200 dialysis sessions every month, backed by a standby generator.
This schedule ensures patients who need dialysis aren’t turned away.
Abayomi said Lagosians can also get dialysis at other government hospitals LASUTH, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, and Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Metta.
The state government is building more dialysis centres in different parts of Lagos to make the service more accessible.
The commissioner said the health of Lagosians is the ministry’s priority.
