The Lagos State Government has secured the conviction and sentencing of two individuals found guilty of illegally dumping refuse in the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this in a post shared on social media on Tuesday.

According to Wahab, the two defendants Ibrahim Kashua and Kareem Sodiq were brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Bolade Oshodi on May 18, 2026.

Both pleaded guilty to the charge of indiscriminate refuse dumping and were subsequently convicted and sentenced to three months in prison.

The convictions come on the back of repeated warnings by the Lagos State Government against illegal waste disposal and other environmental violations.

It had previously been reported that offenders risk either a fine of ₦250,000 or a prison term of up to three months, and that over 4,000 individuals had already been prosecuted across the state for similar offences.
