AFCON 2025 finalist, Stanley Nwabali, has sparked the concern of fans following his recent transfer update and departure from Chippa United.

Super Eagles of Nigeria’s shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali has officially entered the free agent market, but his sudden exit from South African side Chippa United has left fans and analysts questioning his next move, with no transfer update in sight.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper, who became a household name following his heroics at AFCON 2023 and the more recent 2025 tournament in Morocco, confirmed he has mutually parted ways with the “Chilli Boys.” While the move ends a successful four-year tenure, the timing has raised eyebrows as Nwabali admits he currently has no concrete offers on the table.

Despite being linked to heavyweights like Kaizer Chiefs, Raja Casablanca, and even English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, Nwabali revealed in a recent interview on Sports Nights Amplified that these rumours have yet to materialise into formal negotiations. He noted that the only calls he has been receiving are from family and friends who were shocked by the announcement.

The uncertainty is particularly striking given Nwabali’s status as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper. By terminating his contract, he faces the risk of remaining clubless during a critical period of the season, a gamble that could impact his match fitness for the national team.

Addressing speculation that he was forced out, Nwabali was quick to clarify that the decision was entirely personal. He described his relationship with the Chippa United hierarchy as “father and son,” insisting there is no bad blood. He emphasised that football is about happiness, and he felt it was necessary to move forward to prove himself on a bigger stage.

While African giants like Simba SC and various international clubs have reportedly monitored his situation, Nwabali appears content to wait for the right project rather than rushing into a deal. With no restrictive clauses preventing him from joining a rival South African club or moving overseas, the ball is firmly in his court, provided a suitor steps up soon.

For now, one of Africa’s most reliable keepers remains in professional limbo, a situation that continues to spark debate across the continent’s footballing circles.
