A lawyer has sparked mixed reactions after rejoicing over a trend she recently began noticing in court.
Kelly Ekezie said she noticed that more women are requesting to leave their kids with their ex-husbands.
She wrote: ‘Yesterday in court, a woman made a request that had almost everyone laughing.
‘“My Lord, let him have custody of the children. Grant me visitation rights, and I’ll contribute financially to their upkeep.”
‘The interesting part? The man’s lawyer was seriously arguing for the WOMAN to keep the children!
‘Ah ah! Oga, what happened?
‘You see, from my experience, some fathers become less consistent with financial support once custody is awarded to the mother. School fees, feeding, medical bills… suddenly, everything becomes “Ask your mother!”
‘Now, some women, particularly where the children are a little older, are saying:
‘“Daddy, over to you! I’ll pay maintenance and come for visitation.”
‘And suddenly, everyone remembers that children need their mothers!
‘Of course, custody is not about passing children around like parcels. Their best interests must always come first.
‘But I love the conversation this is starting.
‘Parenting is a shared responsibility, even when marriage ends!’
