Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to a significant development in Burkina Faso after the country commissioned its first-ever gold refinery.
The singer took to Instagram on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to acknowledge the development and praise Burkina Faso’s head of state, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
Sharing a post about the refinery, Davido tagged Traoré’s official account and simply wrote: “Leader! @president_ibrahim_traore”.
His comment quickly attracted attention from fans and followers, with many noting the singer’s public show of admiration for the Burkinabè leader.
The refinery, which was officially launched on Monday, September 28, is part of Burkina Faso’s efforts to gain greater control over its mineral resources by processing more of its gold within the country.
The presidency described the development as an important step towards economic independence, highlighting the government’s intention to retain more value from the country’s natural resources.
Burkina Faso is one of Africa’s major gold producers, with the country recording more than 94 tonnes of gold production in the previous year, according to the World Gold Council.
However, the country’s gold sector has faced challenges, including illegal mining, smuggling and insecurity linked to jihadist violence.
The establishment of the refinery is therefore expected to strengthen government oversight of the gold industry and allow Burkina Faso to benefit more directly from the resources extracted within its borders.
