Lewis Hall has opened up on his decision to leave boyhood club Chelsea for Newcastle United, describing the move as a crucial step in his career development.

The versatile defender, who spent over a decade at Chelsea’s academy, admitted the decision was not an easy one but insisted it was necessary for his growth as a player.

While grateful for the opportunities he received at Stamford Bridge, Hall felt the timing was right to embrace a new challenge elsewhere. One of the key reasons behind his move was the search for regular first-team football.

“I have achieved a lot of things which I don’t think I would have been able to achieve if I would have stayed there. But Chelsea has played a massive part in helping me to be that player who got the move in the first place and I’m always grateful for that.”

At Chelsea, competition for places was intense, making it difficult for young players to secure consistent minutes. Hall explained that Newcastle presented a clearer pathway, with a defined role in Eddie Howe’s long-term project.

The promise of meaningful involvement and trust from the coaching staff played a significant role in convincing him to make the switch.
