English football club, Manchester United have secured the majority of the land required to build the largest stadium in the UK.

The proposed “New Trafford” will feature a 100,000-seat capacity and is projected to take five years to construct.

The new facility will sit 350 meters away from Old Trafford, which has served as the club’s home for 115 years.

Manchester United have unveiled plans for a new 100,000-seater stadium, set to become the biggest sporting venue in the country.

The club has secured the majority of the land required to build the facility, ramping up plans to create the largest stadium in the United Kingdom. United will continue to work on acquiring the remaining land parcels needed, though no significant issues are expected in finalizing those agreements.

Club officials believe the acquired land, located 350 meters away from Old Trafford, represents the best option for their new home and aligns perfectly with the wider Greater Manchester Regeneration project.

A major obstacle that threatened to delay the project involved acquiring a plot owned by Freightliner. This complication has been bypassed by purchasing an alternative 25-acre triangle of land situated between Europa Way, Wharfside Way, and John Gilbert Way. The land was acquired from industrial space provider Indurent.

Details on the master plan for the Old Trafford regeneration and the formal consultation period will be released on July 9, 2026. With the land secured, the club is pivoting its focus toward the design phase of the stadium in close cooperation with its fan base.

United have spent the last 115 years at Old Trafford, which currently holds nearly 74,000 spectators. The team is expected to continue playing at their historic home while the new stadium is constructed adjacent to it.

The new ground, referred to as “New Trafford” in project documents, will feature an umbrella-style canopy design engineered by architects to harvest solar energy and rainwater. The structure will feature three prominent masts that will make the stadium visible from up to 40 kilometers away. United noted that on a clear day, the towering structure will be visible from the outskirts of Liverpool.
