Nigerians have accused the Nigerian police of selective justice after the Lagos State Police Command PRO Benjamin Hundeyin explained why TikToker Seaking was arrested.
Seaking was arrested after he released videos insulting the president following warnings by the police force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi that cursing people online is a criminal offence.
Following his arrest, a lawyer on X, Inibehe Effiong indicated interest in representing Seaking.
However, Benjamin Hundeyin took to X to question Effiong, writing: “Please enlighten us @InibeheEffiong. Is it a crime or not to incite members of the public to violence/anarchy?”
Hundeyin then shared the video that led to Seaking’s arrest.
In the video, Seaking is seen urging Nigerians to beat up any police officer who tries to harrass them.
“Nigerian youths, any police wey stop you for road, wey harrass you, wey ask you for your phone, make una beat am,” Seaking said in the video.
Hundeyin’s tweet sparked outrage as Nigerians accused the police of turning a blind eye when MC Oluomo threatened violence on Igbos during the election only to now arrest Seaking for calling on the public to attack police officers who harass them.
