Mikel Arteta has urged his Arsenal players and supporters to remain focused as the club edge closer to a potentially historic Premier League and Champions League double.

The Gunners strengthened belief around the Emirates after booking a place in their first Champions League final in 20 years with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid earlier this week. Arsenal will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Budapest on May 30.

‘Stay present and live the moment’

Despite the excitement surrounding the European run, Arteta insisted his full attention remains on the Premier League title race, where Arsenal sit five points clear of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand.

“We are closer and closer and everything that we do now is going to matter to win it or not,” Arteta said.

“Stay present, live the moment, prepare and show the same level of energy, hunger and desire that we have showed all season or more.”

Arsenal need three wins from their final three league matches to secure a first English top-flight title in 22 years.

West Ham clash next for Arsenal

The North London side travel to face West Ham United on Sunday before finishing the campaign against Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Arteta admitted emotions were high following the Atletico victory, especially after criticism from some pundits over Arsenal’s celebrations.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney claimed the celebrations were “a little bit too much,” while ex-Arsenal forward Ian Wright defended the players and fans.

Guardiola still believes in Man City title hopes

Meanwhile, Guardiola remains hopeful City can still push Arsenal all the way despite Monday’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton.

City face Brentford this weekend before clashes against Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa, alongside an FA Cup final against Chelsea.

“I love to play at home,” Guardiola said while stressing the importance of the Etihad atmosphere during the title run-in.
