A woman has sought relationship advice after alleging that her Ghanaian husband, who is 15 years younger than her, may have married her to gain access to the United States. JoiningCommunity Volunteering Programs

Speaking during a discussion, the woman said she had been married to the man but now felt he had used her to get to the US. She asked whether she should take responsibility for her decision, divorce him and stop begging him to remain in the marriage.

However, the woman responding to her story challenged her to also examine her own intentions when she entered the relationship.

She argued that the woman may have also been trying to get something from the younger man and accused her of overlooking the possibility that both parties entered the marriage with expectations.

According to her, women often describe older men who pursue significantly younger foreign women as predatory, but the same standard should apply when an older woman enters a relationship with a much younger foreign man.

She advised the woman to accept responsibility for her decision, proceed with the divorce if the relationship was no longer working and stop trying to force her husband to remain with her.

The woman also admitted that she had given her husband money during the relationship.

The discussion further turned to the importance of seeking God’s guidance before making major relationship decisions. The commentator suggested that what people sometimes interpret as divine guidance could simply be their own desires influencing their decisions.

She compared the woman’s situation to entering a grocery store while hungry, arguing that desperation can make people make impulsive choices they might not make when they are in a better emotional state.

She concluded that the woman’s account suggested she may have entered the relationship from a place of desperation and should now take responsibility for the choices she made.
