A video from the burial ceremony of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has emerged online, capturing an emotional account from his younger sister about the series of losses the family has experienced over the years.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage 4 cancer. His death sparked widespread mourning across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues, friends and fans paying tribute to the respected actor.

The veteran actor was buried on Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State. The funeral attracted several prominent figures in Nollywood, including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo, Kazeem Adeoti, Dele Odule, Mr Latin, Ireti Osayemi, Fathia Balogun, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Toyosi Adesanya and Saje Tiologa, among others.

During the burial service, however, Ogogo’s younger sister delivered an emotional speech in Yoruba, where she recounted the painful history of deaths within their family.

According to her, the family had experienced a pattern of tragedies which she described as “Ogun Idile,” a term she associated with a generational family battle from their father’s side in Ilaro.

She clarified that she was not accusing witches or wizards of being responsible for Ogogo’s death. Instead, she described what the family had endured as a longstanding struggle that had affected several members of the family.

The woman also spoke about the number of children their mother had lost. She explained that although their mother gave birth to several children after marrying into Ogogo’s father’s family, only a few survived.

Recounting her personal experience, she revealed that she gave birth to her first child while living in their father’s home in Ilaro, but the child eventually passed away.

Her revelation echoed comments Ogogo himself had made years earlier about the losses suffered by his family.

In a 2020 interview with Sunday Scoop to mark his 60th birthday, the late actor disclosed that his mother had given birth to 13 children, but only three were still alive at the time.

Ogogo also revealed that his twin brother, Kehinde, had died, making him the last surviving member of the twin sets his mother had given birth to.

The actor, who initially trained as an automobile mechanic before finding his path in the Nigerian film industry, described reaching the age of 60 as a significant milestone and a reason to be grateful to God.

Reflecting on his life and family history at the time, he said his mother had given birth to four sets of twins and that he was the only surviving twin.

“I just want to thank God for bringing me into this world. Being 60 is a thing of joy for me. For example, my Kehinde (twin) is no more. My mother had four sets of twins. I’m the last set of twins and the only surviving one,” he said.

The revelations from his sister have added another emotional layer to the tributes surrounding Ogogo’s death, as mourners continue to remember the veteran actor and the legacy he left behind in Nollywood.
