Nigerian singer Spyro has opened up about the impact his father’s words had on his confidence while growing up.
The singer shared the experience while reflecting on his childhood and the struggles he faced before becoming successful in his music career.
According to Spyro, his father would regularly tell him that he was not sure he would become successful, and the comments eventually affected the way he viewed himself.
“My father would always tell me as a child that he wasn’t sure I would be successful, so I started seeing myself as a failure. I’d go to school and ask myself, ‘Can I even graduate from here?’ I felt like someone who couldn’t do anything right.”
Spyro said the repeated doubts made him question his abilities from a young age and affected his confidence.
His revelation has sparked reactions on social media, with some users saying parents should be careful about how they speak to their children, while others interpreted his experience differently.
@Edvinng: Well some parents say that as motivation, but that is wrong. Always encourage and praise your child, it doesn’t change anything. Pikin way go make am, go make am.
