Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has opened up about the challenges she experienced in her two failed marriages, sharing details about her relationships, financial independence and prolonged custody battle over her children.
The actress made these revelations during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she reflected on some of the difficult moments she experienced in her previous marriages.
Speaking about her first marriage, Laide disclosed that her former husband felt threatened by her financial independence after she returned from a trip to the United States.
According to her, her husband was uncomfortable with the financial freedom she had gained and eventually sent her packing from their matrimonial home.
Recounting the incident, she said:
“I travelled to the US, and when I came back, he said, ‘Don’t bring that back to the house.’ My first husband was threatened by me being financially free.”
Speaking further about her second marriage, the actress made revelations about her ex-husband’s current partner, claiming that the woman was previously his girlfriend during her relationship with him.
She explained that the woman allegedly kept her distance and would run away whenever she heard her name.
“When I used to be with him, the woman was just his girlfriend. A girlfriend that was hiding from me, and whenever she heard my name, she would run,” Laide stated.
The actress also revealed that she has been involved in a custody battle over her two sons for the past 10 years.
According to her, there was a time she successfully secured custody of the children, only to later lose access to them.
“I have been fighting for custody of my kids for the past 10 years. At one point, I got custody of them and then was denied access to them,” she added.
Her revelations have brought renewed attention to the actress’s experiences with marriage, relationships and her ongoing struggle to maintain access to her children.
