Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has sparked widespread reactions online after comments from his latest interview about his wealth and business empire.
Speaking during a conversation with The School of Hard Knocks, a platform that hosts global entrepreneurs and billionaires, Dangote suggested that his net worth may be higher than current public estimates.
When asked about his exact fortune, the billionaire admitted he could not give a precise figure, but noted that his refinery alone carries significant value.
“I don’t know really, but my refinery is worth over $40 billion, just the refinery alone. But I don’t know, it (net worth) will come out soon,” he said.
The interviewer referenced Forbes’ estimate of about $38 billion, prompting a discussion about how his wealth is assessed.
Dangote explained that a large part of his business empire is privately held, making it difficult for analysts to determine his true net worth.
“They said I am worth $38 billion because most of our businesses are not listed yet,” he added.
He also spoke about his personality, saying his humility is rooted in the values taught by his family.
“I have been humble all my life. My family taught me to be very humble, to make sure that I don’t really show off. They taught me to be disciplined and down to earth,” he said.
