The Nigerian naira is currently quoted at ₦1,329.80 per US dollar in the official market and about ₦1,389/$1 in the parallel market, based on the latest available figures as of Tuesday, September 22, 2026. JoinDiaspora Networks
The official rate represents the most recent closing position recorded by the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) on Monday, September 21, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The latest figure shows a modest improvement in the naira’s value from the previous NFEM closing rate of ₦1,331.20/$1.
Outside the official market, the dollar continued to command a higher price.
Market indications from Monday placed the dollar’s selling rate at approximately ₦1,389, while dealers were buying the currency at around ₦1,381.
The difference between the two parallel-market rates means a person selling dollars and another buying the same amount could receive or pay different amounts depending on the transaction.
For example, $1,000 would cost roughly ₦1.389 million at the reported selling rate. At the ₦1,381 buying rate, someone selling $1,000 would receive approximately ₦1.381 million.
Using the latest figures, the parallel-market selling rate is about ₦59.20 higher for every dollar than the NFEM rate.
The disparity reflects the different pricing conditions in Nigeria’s formal and informal foreign exchange markets. JoinDiaspora Networks
Exchange rates can change during the day as demand for dollars, available supply, foreign currency inflows and import-related transactions shift. Monetary policy developments can also affect market conditions.
