Veteran NFL running back Miles Sanders has been arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with driving under the influence, according to court records.

Sanders, 29, was arrested on June 8 in Churchill Borough, outside Pittsburgh, near where he grew up. He was charged last week with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving. Police reportedly found Sanders “in and out of consciousness” and slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road.

According to police, Sanders performed poorly on a field sobriety test and smelled strongly of alcohol. Officers said he admitted to drinking earlier in the day and subsequently tested positive for alcohol on a breath test. Police also allege that marijuana was found inside Sanders’ vehicle.

Sanders played college football at Penn State before being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with Philadelphia before joining the Carolina Panthers for two seasons. He played for the Dallas Cowboys last year and is currently a free agent, with the 2026 NFL season due to begin in two weeks.

His lawyer, Phil DiLucente, told CBS Pittsburgh: “This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment.” Sanders is due back in court on October 28 for a preliminary hearing.
