Tension is rising in Anambra after the Nigerian Navy arrested five individuals allegedly linked to IPOB, ESN, and other criminal networks during a targeted security operation in Ogbaru.

The Nigerian Navy has handed over five individuals suspected of links to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, the Eastern Security Network, and associated criminal groups to the Department of State Services in Anambra State for further investigation.

According to a statement signed by the Naval Director of Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, the suspects were apprehended by personnel from the Naval Outpost in Onitsha, operating out of Forward Operating Base Amiyi, following intelligence reports connecting them to alleged criminal activities in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is believed to be a key coordinator of the group’s operations within the affected communities, while the others are said to have varying levels of association with the network.

Initial findings also pointed to specific locations allegedly used for meetings and recruitment purposes.

In line with established inter-agency cooperation protocols, the suspects were formally transferred to the Department of State Services for further action.

The Navy described the operation as a reflection of its continued commitment to supporting internal security, combating violent extremism, and working collaboratively with other security agencies to protect lives, maintain peace, and uphold national stability.
