A Nigerian security expert, Kabir Adamu, has questioned the sincerity of Nigerian security agents in tracking armed bandits.

In a chat with TVC, Kabir wondered how security agents were quick to apprehend a man in Port Harcourt, Rivers state who made a post on X calling for a coup in Nigeria but are slow in apprehending bandits who made threatening videos, post them on Tiktok and even go on social media platforms to drop comments.

‘’It is an indication of the impunity within our security sector. Tracking individuals online in the digital space is extremely easy. First of, every device that they are using has a signature, the platform that they are using has credentials that you can use to track…even if it is not their own that they are using, you can create a social web that will allow you to eventually identify who they are.

If it is politically expedient to track them and arrest them and try them, it will be done but I think for some odd reasons at the moment, because of the impunity within the security sector, that is not being done at the moment.

Today on social media, there was a viral post by a bandit who was in simple terms challenging the supremacy and soverignity of the Nigerian state, saying some very stupid things and it went viral. I believe that by now, that young man should have been arrested and a lesson taught to his peers who will want to follow same. But because overtime we have not done that, once you see Tiktok, the number of brazen display you will see by these criminals is shocking. Sometimes when I speak to my friend from across the world, they ask the question that where are Nigerian security organizations? I must say its not as if we lack the presence of security departments, we have up to 42 of them, 29 primary ones and an additional 14 supporting the primary ones, they have the capacity to track these things. If it is politically expedient and we break that impunity, they will start tracking them and we will see an end to the brazen criminality that we are seeing today.”

Speaking further, he said

‘’Recently, a young man posted about a coup in Port Harcourt. How long did it take the security organizations to go after him and track him. Not very long..so they can use the same technology and track these same bad guys. It is the same technology used in tracking that man that they can use in tracking these terrible monsters doing dastardly things to our people”
