The Ghana Police Service has arrested Esther Obasi, a Nigerian national who posed in official police camouflage and standard black police uniform in social media videos.
The videos raised public outrage and concerns regarding the unauthorised use and abuse of police uniforms and impersonation.
The arrest was made by the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team last weekend.
Preliminary investigations established a link between the suspect and a police officer, who was invited to assist with investigations and subsequently produced the suspect.
The officer stated that he had given the uniform to the suspect to wash for him.
The suspect is reportedly in custody assisting with investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has warned the public of unauthorised use and abuse of the police uniform, stressing that those found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
