Addressing a crowd of protesters that gathered to welcome him to Aba, he condemned the deployment of a large number of soldiers and other security men.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ahead of the Easter celebrations.

He stated this on Thursday in Aba during the free Nnamdi Kanu 1 Million protest.

Addressing a crowd of protesters that gathered to welcome him to Aba, he condemned the deployment of a large number of soldiers and other security men.

He said that the strong military presence should have been deployed to states that are facing serious attacks from Boko Haram and Lakuwara terrorists.

According to the human rights activist, he was not the organiser of the Aba protest, but explained that his presence was because of his belief in justice and equity for Kanu.

He described Nnamdi Kanu as a leader, brother and father who should be freed.

“We are not the organizers of this protest but we said we must come to this city and announce the freedom of our brother, our father and leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Am only for justice, I don’t care if you are Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa. Nigeria can not thrive when one tribe is treated differently from the other.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must spend Easter with us; he has suffered enough”, Sowore said.

It was gathered that the crowd was initially dispersed by security men at Faulks road, but regrouped at Samek area of Aba, in larger number before continuing with the protest.

In Umuahia, Abia State capital, the city was peaceful and calm, as Police officers were seen inside patrol vehicles, moving around the town to maintain order.
