A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Ajetunmobi Sunday Dayo, has reportedly died after drowning during a beach outing in Bayelsa State.

According to reports, Ajetunmobi Sunday Dayo, a corps member, died while swimming with other corps members at Akassa Beach in Bayelsa State.

According to information obtained by Daily Trust, the tragic occurrence occurred on Saturday while the deceased was having a picnic at Okumbiribeleu Beach in the Akassa community in Brass local government.

Dayo was swimming with other coworkers before he vanished, a local source informed Daily Trust.

The source said that after noting his absence, his coworkers started looking for him.

He claimed that local divers near the shore started a search and rescue effort after his coworkers sounded the alarm, but it was unsuccessful.

His body washed up on the beach by the water, and his remains were found on Monday.

With his parents’ consent, he was buried in Bayelsa by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officials.

Prior to the tragic event, it was learned that the deceased was employed at the Community Secondary School (CSS), Kongho, in Akassa.

Before the event, they had left the Tobukiri lodge for a tourist visit to Okumbiribeleu Beach, which is located in a different neighborhood.

Mrs. Yvonne Halliday-Urie, the public relations officer of the NYSC state office in Bayelsa, verified the occurrence and called it a sad one.

“The information is true and sad; he was buried in Yenagoa yesterday,” she stated. In accordance with the parents’ request, NYSC carried out his funeral rituals yesterday.

The event was also confirmed by DSP Musa Mohammed, the Bayelsa State police spokesperson.

He stated that an investigation is underway to determine what caused the occurrence.

Because the Atlantic Ocean passes through the region, Akassa and several areas of the Brass local government area are renowned for their deep waters, according to Daily Trust.

Despite being endowed with stunning braces and swiftly moving rivers and seas, the region is nonetheless unconnected to Yenagoa and other parts of Bayelsa by road.
