A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has ordered the remand of two suspected kidnappers, Ibrahim Abdulahi, 30 and Abubakar Umaru, 25, at the Olokuta Correctional Facility for alleged kidnapping and theft.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Ondo State Police Command and subsequently arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and attempted kidnapping.

Police prosecutor, Owolabi Edu, told the court that the defendants, along with others at large, committed the offences on October 16, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m. in Area Mother, Ore, Ondo State.

Edu alleged that the defendants attempted to kidnap a herder, Bello Aliu, and stole his cow valued at N600,000.

According to the prosecutor, Abubakar allegedly provided information to Abdulahi and another suspect at large, Sandar, to facilitate the kidnapping operation.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 4, and 11 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010, as well as Section 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Edu, therefore, prayed the court to remand the suspects at the correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate F.A. Akinboboye ordered the remand of the defendants at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for advice.

The case was adjourned to December 12, 2025, for mention.
