Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has advised people to think carefully about the consequences of their actions before making life-changing decisions.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor explained that people who engage in the same behaviour may not necessarily face the same consequences because of differences in their circumstances and available resources.
“One man can sleep with 30-40 women and still find a woman willing to settle down with him, but a woman who sleeps with 7-10 men may be rejected because of her past.
What favours Mr. A might not favour Mrs. B. People don’t always face the same social consequences for the same behaviour. The behaviour is the same, but the consequences are different,” he said.
Using relationships as an example, Chiwetalu pointed out that men and women can face different social consequences for similar choices, urging people to be mindful of the path they choose.
He also highlighted how financial differences can determine how people cope when their actions go wrong, noting that two people involved in the same behaviour may have very different options for dealing with the aftermath.
“Don’t assume that because someone is doing something, that you will both suffer the consequences equally. We are all humans, but some humans have more to lose than the others.
Always learn to look before you leap. Before you act, think about the consequences of your action. Think beyond the moment,” he added.
Chiwetalu’s message has drawn reactions online, with some discussing the role of circumstances, resources and personal responsibility in the consequences people face.
He urged people to consider how badly they could suffer if their decisions went wrong and whether they have the resources to recover, stressing that wisdom involves knowing what one cannot afford to do.
