PDP will come fourth in 2027 general election – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted a sharp decline in the political fortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party is likely to finish fourth in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, July 25, Fayose attributed the projected downfall to unresolved internal crises and the marginalisation of key party figures.

“Today, I am telling you the PDP will come fourth in the general elections. In most states, they are already compromised,” he said. “They have eased out so many leaders. It’s good for them, but let me remind you, I was part of the G5.”

Fayose also criticized the party’s current leadership for allegedly sidelining him, which he said influenced his decision not to attend the PDP’s recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, despite receiving an invitation.

Describing the PDP as a “carcass,” Fayose pointed to a mass exodus of influential members as a sign of its decline. “Presidential candidate has left, Vice Presidential candidate has left, senators have left, governors have left,” he said.

Despite his sharp criticism, Fayose declared his continued affiliation with the PDP but left open the possibility of a future defection. “I can join APC, ADC or Labour Party,” he stated.

He added that the party is “wounded” by the recent defections and warned that without strategic reconciliation and reforms, its influence will continue to diminish.
