The Pentagon has made a rare disclosure by revealing the location of a secretive Ohio-class nuclear-armed submarine, just one day after US President Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal.
The Navy’s Sixth Fleet released an image of the stealthy vessel and its crew docked in Gibraltar, a British territory off the southern coast of Spain. In a press release, the fleet stated that the port visit “demonstrates US capability, flexibility, and continuing commitment to its NATO allies,” emphasizing that these submarines serve as “undetectable launch platforms” and provide the most survivable leg of the U.S. nuclear triad.
While the Navy operates 14 of these nuclear-powered vessels, it did not disclose the specific name of the submarine currently stationed in Gibraltar. The move is significant because the Pentagon typically keeps the locations of its nuclear submarines highly classified.
The disclosure followed hours after the president used social media to dismiss Iran’s diplomatic efforts, writing, “I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” He further accused the Iranian leadership of “playing games” with the United States and the international community.
The central conflict remains the Iranian regime’s refusal to accept terms requiring the abandonment of its nuclear program and the transfer of enriched uranium to U.S. custody.
Tensions continue to mount as the president has repeatedly warned that military operations against the regime could restart if a peace deal is not reached. The presence of the Ohio-class submarine, equipped with Trident II ballistic missiles capable of traveling over 4,500 miles, serves as a clear signal of American military readiness during the diplomatic deadlock.
