Police arrest two suspected kidnappers near Edo State University, recover firearms, charms and ammunition

Police have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Iyamho community, near the Edo State University.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 said firearms, ammunition, assorted charms and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects during the operation.

According to the PPRO, the suspects identified as Sani Kabir, and Hamza Nuhu, are believed to be linked to kidnapping activities in the area.

Ikoedem stated that police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer arrested the suspects following credible intelligence.

“In a decisive move against criminality, the Edo State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its sustained crackdown on kidnapping and related violent crimes across the State,” the statement read.

“On 27th April, 2026, at about 10:35 a.m., operatives of the Iyamho Division, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly responded to reports of suspected kidnappers sighted in Iyamho, near Edo State University. The suspects were believed to be linked to kidnapping activities in the area.

“The police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly apprehended the two suspects, namely: Sani Kabir, male, aged 23, and Hamza Nuhu, male, aged 25.

“Items recovered from the suspects include two Dane guns, one live AK-47 round of ammunition, two cutlasses, one police woven headgear, one hunter’s headlamp, four cans of gunpowder, assorted charms, and several locally made bullets.

“The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation and onward prosecution.”

“Reaffirming the Command’s unwavering resolve, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, assures all residents that Edo State will never become a safe haven or breeding ground for kidnappers and other criminal elements.

“He emphasizes that the Command remains relentless in its offensive against violent crime and will not rest until every individual involved in kidnapping and related offences is apprehended, brought to justice, and made to face the full weight of the law.

“The Commissioner further commends the swift response and professionalism of the operatives and urges members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police, as security remains a shared responsibility.”
