Police arrest woman for assaulting her husband and attacking him with cutlass in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly spousal battery in Akure.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, June 12, 2026 said the suspect identified as Olatunde Mary assaulted her husband, Julius Olatunde and attacked him with a cutlass during a violent domestic altercation at their residence.

According to the PPRO, Mary was arrested after the incident was reported at the Gender-Based Offences Unit (GBV Unit) of the Command by neighbours.

She was subsequently arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Felix Ohagwu psc, mnips, mspsp has arrested and prosecuted a woman, identified as Olatunde Mary of Ilado II, Igbatoro road, Akure, for alleged spousal battery and wounding following a violent domestic incident that left her husband with a serious injury,” the statement read.

“The case was reported at the Gender-Based Offences Unit (GBV Unit) of the Command Headquarters, Akure, on 3rd June, 2026.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives immediately commenced an investigation into the matter.

“Preliminary findings revealed that the incident occurred on 2nd June, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m., during a domestic altercation between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius.

“During the dispute, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, causing him severe bodily injury.

“The victim was immediately taken for medical treatment, where the extent of his injuries was assessed and documented.

“Police investigators thereafter conducted a comprehensive investigation, obtaining statements from the victim and the suspect, while also gathering necessary evidence to aid the case.

“Upon the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of a prima facie case, the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals and remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable regardless of gender, status or relationship with the victim.

“The Command further encourages members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the Gender-Based Offences Unit for immediate intervention and necessary legal action.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, reassures residents that the Command will continue to uphold justice, protect vulnerable persons, and ensure that all reported cases are professionally investigated and diligently prosecuted.”
